As the new semester begins, CFLC students switched to online classes amidst the ongoing coronavirus epidemic. The students also learned epidemic control and prevention guidelines and maintained their positive attitude despite the epidemic. Colleges and universities nationwide were rapidly shifting to online classes and taking other measures to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Huang Zhangli, a third-year graduate student majoring in English:

“2020 was an extraordinary year for the Chinese people. We’ve experienced the anguish of the epidemic, but we’ve also seen miracles and read numerous touching stories. Under the leadership of the CPC and President Xi Jinping, the whole nation has followed the general principle of remaining confident, coming together in solidarity, adopting a science-based approach, and taking targeted measures, and waged an all-out people’s war on the virus.”

Song Wenxiao, a third-year graduate student majoring in French:

“The Chinese nation is a great nation with remarkable resilience. Through painstaking efforts and tremendous sacrifice, China has succeeded in turning the situation around. In little more than a single month, the rising spread of the virus was contained. With these achievements, China has protected its people’s lives, safety and health, and made a significant contribution to safeguarding regional and global public health.”

Jia Zilin, a fourth-year undergraduate majoring in English:     

“As the saying goes, ‘A hero is known in the time of misfortune.’ Zhong Nanshan is a hero like this. Zhong, 84, led a medical team to Wuhan to fight the epidemic. His team took many measures to cure patients infected by the novel coronavirus. Numerous medical professionals raced against time to save lives, disregarding their personal safety. And countless people and businesses generously donated money and supplies to hospitals.”

Fang Mengru, a first-year graduate student majoring in English:

“China had defeated the coronavirus with great heroism and sacrifice. We’re deeply touched by the stories of hope, volunteerism and everyday heroism throughout the coronavirus epidemic.”

Chang Haoxuan, a second-year undergraduate majoring in Japanese:

“In the midst of the epidemic, we young people should practice social distancing and good respiratory etiquette, use personal protection equipment, stay calm and help our relatives and friends. ‘Many a little makes a mickle.’ Lu Xun famously said: ‘Generate a little heat, emit a little light, like a firefly flickering in the dark. There is no need to wait for the torch.’”
