The bitter winter of the epidemic can’t block the arrival of spring. With the advent of spring, everything comes back to life – the sun makes its way through the clouds and shines brighter every day. As the “Learning from Lei Feng Month” got underway, CFLC’s Youth League members enthusiastically joined the fight against the coronavirus, contributing their youthful energy to the battle against the epidemic. While voluntary activities were in full swing, CFLC’s 46 Youth League branches each launched a micro-group class with the theme of “the power of the youth amid the epidemic” to share the moving stories of the volunteers fighting the epidemic and their observations and feelings.

The CFLC students were actively involved in the prevention and control of the epidemic in the community, doing their part in combating the epidemic. They are prime examples of how the youth are reminding their communities how to stick together, even when we’re all staying apart. Their acts of kindness inspire confidence that young people can manifest the best in humanity — and that is a light that will shine for generations to come.

Tang Tianyu, a third-year student majoring in English:

“I took part in the epidemic response program of a local primary school which is my alma mater. My duties including checking the temperatures of people coming to the campus and offering them hand sanitizers before 10 a.m. each morning; collecting student health cards for the teachers after 10 a.m.; and providing the teachers with technical support, reviewing students’ health statistics and preparing summary reports. It was a simple task, but in the battle against the epidemic, everyone counts. I did my best for this war against the epidemic. Lu Xun once said: ‘Generate a little heat, emit a little light, like a firefly flickering in the dark. There is no need to wait for the torch.’  I think I was such a firefly. When millions of such fireflies came together, they became the torch that burned down the virus.”

Wang Ruoyao, a third-year student majoring in English:

“I helped the children of a few frontline medical workers with their schoolwork. I tutored them on Chinese, English, math, history, geography, history and biology. In the process, we became close friends, and I listened to what they had to say. I constantly encouraged these children to study hard. Their parents were fighting the coronavirus on the frontline and we did our part by helping their children with their schoolwork and keeping them company. I was very pleased when I saw the children make progress in their study.”

Gong Xiao, a first-year student majoring in Spanish:

“We were not just helping medical workers’ children with their schoolwork. We were conveying a positive attitude to the children. We wanted their parents to know that we supported their battle against the epidemic by looking after their children, and that we appreciated what they were doing for the entire society and  we stood in solidarity with the medical professionals who were showing extraordinary efforts to face the coronavirus outbreak.”

Liang Shiyi, a second-year student majoring in English:

“We contributed to the battle against the epidemic by providing free translation services. We took advantage of our language skills to translate epidemic information into various languages, keeping international friends informed of the novel coronavirus and helping spread information on the control of the epidemic. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, China has stayed on very frontline of the global response to the coronavirus, boosting the confidence of the world. Our voluntary translation service helped transmit the epidemic information to friends around the world.”

Xing Muhan, a four-year student majoring in Japanese:

“As CPC members, we help people around us take appropriate measures to guard against the coronavirus. Adversity shapes people better than anything else. It brings out the best of them. It reveals to them their innate virtues. We have done our part in the battle against the epidemic. As the entire nation is united, we’re confident that we will beat the coronavirus.”
